Platform v5.5 helps critical infrastructure operators maintain secure, reliable remote access even in unstable or low-bandwidth environments.
Xona Systems has announced the release of Platform v5.5, a secure remote access solution built to address rising cyber threats, stricter regulations, and the practical challenges faced by critical infrastructure operators.
The company said traditional VPNs and jump servers were originally designed for stable corporate IT networks and are no longer suitable for today’s operational technology (OT) environments.
Critical infrastructure operators are dealing with a changing threat landscape in 2026. Nation-state actors are increasingly targeting industrial control systems through remote access points. At the same time, regulatory standards such as NERC CIP, IEC 62443, and TSA SD2 guidelines require organizations to clearly demonstrate who is accessing critical systems and under what conditions.
Many infrastructure sites operate in challenging environments, including offshore platforms with unstable connectivity, rural substations with limited bandwidth, and partially air-gapped industrial facilities. In such settings, conventional remote access tools often disconnect users during brief network interruptions, forcing them to restart sessions and reauthenticate, which can disrupt important operations.
Platform v5.5 introduces new features called Session Hold and RDP Auto-Reconnect. These capabilities are designed to keep sessions active even when network connections temporarily drop, allowing operators to continue their work without losing progress.
The platform also includes improved command-line tools, time synchronization services, and strengthened encryption that meets FIPS compliance requirements, supporting both security and regulatory needs.
According to the company, maintaining session continuity helps reduce the risk of operators bypassing security controls during urgent situations. By aligning security systems with real-world operating conditions, the platform aims to ensure that safety and availability are not compromised.
Platform v5.5 also expands the company’s Xona Centralizer system, offering centralized management of user connections, session recordings, logs, bandwidth metrics, and security policies across all connected gateways. Integration support with OT security platforms such as Forescout and Nozomi Networks is also included.
With these updates, the company said organizations can manage secure remote access across global operations from a single interface, even in environments with unstable connectivity. The goal, it added, is to improve visibility, accountability, and resilience without increasing operational complexity.
