Meta’s Consumer AI Agent Could Be Weeks From Launch

Meta is reportedly preparing to launch a consumer-focused AI agent platform called Hatch within the next several weeks.

The product, described in reports as Meta’s answer to OpenClaw, is part of the company’s push to turn heavy AI investment into consumer products and new revenue streams.

Agentic AI Moves Into Everyday Apps

According to The Information, Hatch is designed to help users complete tasks across websites and services, with early examples involving shopping, planning, research and document-related workflows.

Meta has reportedly considered tiered pricing for the product, including a premium subscription with higher usage limits.

The company is also said to be preparing a new AI model, internally called Watermelon, for an October release.

Hatch could give Meta an important distribution advantage. Instead of requiring users to install a separate agentic tool, Meta can place AI agents inside apps people already use, including Instagram and WhatsApp.

Reports also suggest Meta is developing a WhatsApp platform that would let users interact with third-party AI agents directly through the messaging app.

The launch would come as major technology companies race to make AI agents more practical for consumers. These systems aim to move beyond answering questions and toward completing multi-step tasks on behalf of users.

For Meta, the bigger opportunity is clear: make AI agents feel less like a separate product and more like a built-in layer across social, commerce and messaging.
