CNN and Google have signed a multiyear partnership to explore how generative AI can drive engagement with CNN journalism and support content licensing.
CNN and Google have signed a multiyear generative AI partnership aimed at exploring new ways for audiences to discover and engage with CNN journalism.
The companies have not yet detailed exactly how Google’s AI technology will be integrated into CNN’s products or distribution strategy.
However, CNN says the agreement will create new pathways for audiences to access its journalism while compensating the publisher for the use and delivery of its intellectual property in connection with AI products.
The CNN agreement builds on Google’s wider push to work directly with publishers as generative AI changes how people discover news online.
Google has already launched a commercial AI pilot with publishers including The Guardian, Der Spiegel, El País, The Times of India and The Washington Post.
Those experiments include AI-powered article overviews and audio briefings designed to provide additional context while linking users back to publisher content.
The partnership also arrives as publishers continue to raise concerns about declining referral traffic and the use of copyrighted journalism in AI systems.
