Google Adds DMs and Travel Recommendations to Demand Gen Ads

Google Adds DMs and Travel Recommendations to Demand Gen Ads

Google is expanding Demand Gen ads with new messaging, travel and AI creative tools aimed at helping advertisers drive more direct engagement.

The latest August Demand Gen Drop includes a test that lets viewers start conversations with brands through messaging apps directly from Demand Gen ads on YouTube.

Demand Gen Moves Closer to Action

The direct messaging option gives advertisers a shorter path from ad exposure to customer conversation. Instead of sending users only to a website or landing page, brands can move high-intent viewers into a chat experience where they can ask questions or continue the buying journey.

Google is also updating Demand Gen ads for travel. The format can now surface local activities, events and real-time offers, while personalized hotel ads will show more relevant properties to specific audiences.

The update is designed to make travel ads more useful during planning moments, when users may be comparing destinations, accommodations and things to do.

On the creative side, Google is making Multimodal Video Creation in Asset Studio generally available. Advertisers can move from storyboarding to creating horizontal and vertical video assets in one workflow for use across Demand Gen inventory.

Google has also added Omni AI creation tools to Asset Studio, allowing advertisers to create on-brand video assets from prompts, brand guidelines and existing creative inputs.

The updates show Google pushing Demand Gen further beyond awareness. With messaging, travel recommendations and AI-generated creative, the format is becoming more focused on customer acquisition, direct response and faster campaign production.
