Melio Launches Autonomous B2B Payment Network for SMBs

Melio has launched an agent-powered B2B payment network designed to help small and midsize businesses pay suppliers without requiring them to join a new portal or payment network.

The platform connects buyer accounts payable workflows directly with supplier accounts receivable systems. Melio’s AI agents can log into supplier billing systems, execute payments using preferred payment methods and return structured remittance data.

Reducing Supplier Onboarding Friction

Traditional B2B payment networks often require suppliers to be contacted, enabled and onboarded one by one. Melio said its agentic model reduces that friction by allowing payments to reach suppliers through the systems they already use.

The network uses Melio’s historical payment intelligence and automation infrastructure to identify supplier payment preferences and complete transactions with auditability.

Melio said the system has already processed more than 30,000 payments and over $100 million in annualized payment volume.

The launch reflects a broader shift in B2B payments, where AI agents are being used to automate manual workflows, reduce reliance on paper checks and improve payment visibility for SMBs.

Melio processes more than $30 billion in annual payment volume, with a growing share expected to become eligible for agent-driven execution.
