Volvo is expanding its NVIDIA partnership to develop advanced driver-assistance and automated-driving technology for future vehicles.
Volvo Cars is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA to develop a new generation of automated driving technology for future vehicles.
The companies will combine Volvo’s vehicle safety expertise with NVIDIA’s AI, sensor and accelerated-computing technologies.
The new platform will use NVIDIA’s Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, Halos OS and Alpamayo driving software.
Volvo says the technology is being designed to eventually support driving across highways, busy urban environments and parking situations.
It will debut in a next-generation Volvo vehicle as part of the automaker’s broader product expansion.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said capabilities will be introduced gradually as Volvo validates their safety and builds confidence in the system.
Reuters reports that Volvo expects the technology to reach vehicles before 2030, with deployment planned across multiple regions outside China.
Volvo has not yet selected a pricing model, but the company says the technology will not be restricted only to premium vehicles.s
