BMW selects Qualcomm as lead chip supplier for future digital cockpit and driver-assistance vehicle platforms.
BMW has selected Qualcomm Technologies as its lead supplier of computing chips for future vehicle platforms.
The agreement covers next-generation digital cockpit systems and advanced driver assistance and automated driving technologies for BMW vehicle programmes starting in the next decade.
The deal includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio, including Snapdragon Cockpit and Snapdragon Ride platforms.
Qualcomm said the selection reflects BMW’s confidence in its automotive technology roadmap and expands the companies’ existing partnership.
Last year, BMW and Qualcomm launched Snapdragon Ride Pilot, an automated driving system designed to support hands-free driving, lane changes and parking assistance in select BMW vehicles.
The latest agreement strengthens Qualcomm’s position in automotive semiconductors as carmakers shift toward software-defined vehicle architectures.
For BMW, the partnership supports the development of more connected, intelligent and automated in-car experiences across future models.
The deal also comes as competition grows among chip suppliers, including Nvidia and Mobileye, to power the next generation of driver-assistance, cockpit and automated driving systems.
