Apple Launches Siri AI Ahead of Tim Cook’s Departure

Apple has placed a major Siri upgrade at the center of its WWDC 2026 announcements as the company prepares for a leadership transition.

The new Siri AI is designed to offer more natural and personalized assistance across Apple devices. It can use personal context, understand content displayed on a user’s screen, search across apps and answer broader questions using up-to-date web information.

Privacy-Led AI Strategy

Apple said Siri AI will be deeply integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro. A dedicated Siri app will also allow users to revisit previous conversations and start new ones.

The beta rollout is expected later this year on supported devices set to English. Apple said the service will initially be delayed in the European Union on iOS and iPadOS as the company works through regulatory requirements.

The company also introduced new child safety tools across its operating systems, including stronger parental controls and protections for younger users.

The keynote carried added significance as Tim Cook prepares to step down as CEO after 15 years in the role. John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, will take over on September 1, while Cook becomes executive chairman.

The launch gives Apple a major opportunity to show that its privacy-focused approach can remain competitive as rivals continue to expand their generative AI offerings.
