OpenAI signs a multi-year Firmus deal for Malaysian AI data centre capacity using Nvidia Vera Rubin systems.
Firmus has signed a multi-year agreement with OpenAI to provide dedicated AI compute capacity from two planned data centre sites in Malaysia.
The deal makes OpenAI an anchor customer for the facilities and pushes Firmus’ total contracted capacity across customers to more than 900 MW.
The Malaysian sites are expected to use Nvidia’s DSX AI Factory Platform and Vera Rubin NVL72 rack-scale systems, integrated with Firmus’ HyperCube modular infrastructure.
Firmus said the agreement expands its Asia-Pacific footprint as demand grows for regional AI compute capacity. The company already operates AI data centres in Australia and Singapore and has additional sites under development across the region.
For Nvidia, the deal reinforces the role of its next-generation hardware in large AI infrastructure projects. As AI labs secure more data centre capacity, demand is spreading beyond the U.S. and into fast-growing APAC markets.
The agreement also comes as OpenAI and Nvidia pursue a broader infrastructure partnership to deploy at least 10 GW of Nvidia systems for OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure.
Malaysia has become one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing data centre markets, supported by demand for power, land and regional connectivity.
The buildout may still face scrutiny around electricity use, water consumption and grid readiness. But the direction is clear: AI infrastructure demand is becoming increasingly regional, and APAC is emerging as a key market for next-generation compute deployment.
