Samsung Heavy and Mousterian sign an engineering deal for 50 MW floating data centres in the U.S.
Samsung Heavy Industries and Mousterian Corporation have signed an engineering contract for the first deployment of a moored floating data centre in the United States.
The agreement covers the design of purpose-built floating data centres, with each facility expected to provide 50 MW of IT capacity for deployment in Texas and other U.S. locations.
The engineering work is intended to establish the technical baseline for a future engineering, procurement and construction contract.
The floating facilities are designed to be built in shipyards and deployed near existing power generation assets, helping reduce the need for conventional land-based construction.
The companies said the design uses bulk non-evaporative cooling, which does not require potable water or produce process water discharge. It is also intended to support high-density liquid-cooled AI computing while reducing reliance on air-cooled chillers and fans.
Samsung Heavy Industries said floating data centres are a natural extension of its offshore and maritime engineering capabilities.
For Mousterian, the agreement moves the partnership from planning toward execution as demand grows for faster deployment of AI-ready data centre capacity.
The deal reflects broader interest in alternative data centre models as AI workloads increase pressure on land, power, cooling and construction timelines.
